We are live blogging the Dancing With the Stars Finals show on May 24, so hit refresh often as we will post updates whenever there’s a commercial break on the DWTS Finals!
First up is Erin and Maks, dancing the samba. Erin’s challenge this week is to move her body very explicitly, and it looks to me like she is succeeding! Her rear seems to be disconnected from her top…so that is awesome. They finish up with a big kiss to Len.
Len sais he had always wanted to be kissed by a man with a beard! Then he thanks Maks for not taking his clothes off. He says Erin’s improved a lot since last week.
“You were hotter than the noon at the tropics,” said Bruno.
Carrie says “I felt you moved yourself up three notches,” referring to her movements and crisp performance.
UPDATE 8:20 p.m.
Carrie gave them a 10, Len gave them a 10, and Bruno a 9 = 29 for Erin and Maks’ first dance.
Erin razzes Bruno that he never taught her how to walk in heels, and reveals her biggest worry was learning to shake her hips like Maks.
Next up is Evan and Anna. Len comes in to coach a bit and Evan thinks his advice was extremely helpful.
They dance the Viennese waltz…I may have forgotten to mention that for their first dances, the contestants have to dance something the judges think needed improvement from an earlier contest. Evan definitely looks improved, but dancing the waltz to Piano Man is kind of weird.
“Lyricism as good as always,” said Bruno “I liked to see the connection between you two.”
“It was a beautiful, emotional, endless, enchanting dream and I loved it!” said Carrie Ann. She also pointed out that Evan had fixed the problems with pointing his toes and his lines.
Len was a bit more critical, saying “Occasionally when you’re creating so much movement you just collapsed a little bit through your standing leg,” but overall Len thought he did a wonderful job.
UPDATE 8:30 p.m.
Carrie gave them a 10, Len gave them a 9, and Bruno a 9 = 28 for Evan and Anna’s first dance.
Evan says they are sad the competition is almost over but enjoyed doing their waltz.
Next are Nicole and Derek, doing the rumba. Carrie comes in to coach them a little and gives Nicole permission to not worry so much about technique, but focus more on the emotion. Nicole promises she is just going to live the dance and let herself go. Folks…that was really amazing. At the end, she wrapped her leg around him and levitated herself to a horizontal position off the floor.
Carrie Ann has to shout over the audience cheering.
“This was just the most mesmerizing, I could not take my eyes off any bit of the movement,” she said. Then she nailed Derek for lifting Nicole before the music was finished.
Len thought occasionally Nicole did not show confidence, but otherwise it was great.
Bruno: “Eroticism, sensuality, romance seamlessly woven into something of extreme beauty. This was superlative.”
UPDATE 8:41 p.m.
Carrie Ann gave them a 9, Len gave them a 9, and Bruno a 10 = 28 for Nicole and Derek’s first dance.
This show is moving very quickly, and everyone is talking very very fast…I apologize if I miss anything important! I can’t type this fast!!!
Next…for the freestyle dance section is Erin and Maks. They decide to go with something lyrical and modern, which Maks says he’s been trained in ballroom his whole life, so he brought in an expert.
They use a couch and bed for props…this is very sensual…they are dancing to “How Do I Get You Alone.” Maks almost loses her on one flip, but they cover nicely and they do a lot of kissing in this routine! Very nice! Erin is crying when it’s done.
Len says they took an enormous risk, and he likes it but doesn’t love.
Bruno says it was a psychodrama unfolding, and praises her for some of the steps she pulled off.
Carrie Ann thinks it was the perfect choice, and noticed a stumble on the bed….and Maks tells her it wasn’t the bed they rehearsed on. Ha ha.
We get scores before the break… Erin talks about how they wanted to be different, and thank Mandy Moore for helping them.
Carrie Ann gives them a 9, Len an 8, Bruno gives them a 9 = 26 for a total of 55 for the night.
Next up is Evan and Anna…Evan is really freestyling the steps and choreography and they are arguing. He wants to be more risky and she’s not real happy with him. Having seen Erin and Maks…he’s right!!! Anna breaks down in tears, she’s very scared…the pressure is overwhelming her because whoever wins the freestyle wins the competition…historically.
UPDATE 8:48 pm.
Bobby Newberry comes in to help Evan and Anna and now they’re excited to do their freestyle.
They do a very high-energy routine to “Footloose” which is very jitterbuggy. I swear I just saw Evan execute a single toe loop.
Bruno says Evan was demented and didn’t know if he was watching Footloose or Screwloose.
Carrie Ann says it was “odd.” She criticizes their matching when they danced side by side, that they weren’t synchronized.
Len didn’t like it either.
Now for the scores…Evan says he knew they had to be better and higher energy than all season.
Carrie Ann: 8, Len: 8, Bruno: 8 = 24 for a score of 52 for the night.
Tomorrow on the finale, the whole cast will be back and Kate Gosselin will open. She says “I would guess that 90% of my audience doesn’t like me.”
UPDATE 9:00 p.m.
Next up is Nicole and Derek. Derek is doing some lifts he has never done before, and he is nervous. Nicole is determined to win.
I love their sparkly outfit with the yellow shoes. …..whoooothen they take some of it off and have on different outfits! Cool! Whoops! They bobbled on the lift. Uh oh. But it was awesome!
Carrie Ann says that’s the freestyle we’ve all been waiting for. Of course she points out that they slipped on the lift.
Len saw every dance step there was and says it was fantastic.
Bruno says they pushed the bar so high it was incredible. The slip at the end was because they were trying to do what had never been done. That’s a good way to put it!
Nicole is quite out of breath for her interview…can’t blame her!
Carrie Ann: 9, Len: 9, Bruno: 9 = 27 for a total of 55
Everyone will be back tomorrow night for two more dances, but the voting tonight makes up half the score for who wins, so vote!
