Review: Be Kind Rewind

Arlington (CMR) - It’s nice to see Jack Black back in the movies. He has a knack to be very expressive in all of his movies and “Be Kind Rewind” maybe the best movie that he’s been through.
Without a doubt, this could be one of the classics where he can look back and be proud about it. His musical experience coupled with the 80s and 90s references in the different movies they have recreated or “Sweded” has made him a perfect fit for the movie. We may see more of him in different movies but in “Be Kind Rewind” he has practically shown his ability to be goofy while being a great actor.
Mos Def definitely took this movie to be a great experience. The story is simple with subplots that will make you concern the protagonists’ choices.
Mos Def has given us a glimpse of a man who are left with very limited choices but still found a way to make it up – being heroic in the movie while being funny at the same time. A rare performance as he brings the movie to a new light.
I think the public and the general trailer focused so much on Mos Def and Jack Black. These two actors are definitely on the top lists when it comes to influencing the movie. How about Danny Glover? The iconic actor comes back to the movie screens not to be a hero or the bad guy but a perfect backdrop for the story. He never came out of the open with the intent of getting in the way of major actors. Instead he gives a remarkable play of character which is very important to the story.
Danny Glover easily has a very important role with great impact in the movie. But he has managed to let the viewers focus on the Mos Def and Jack Black while he enjoys his role to be at the backdrop without being completely ignored.
The movie is heartwarming, unique and doesn’t give qualms to their movie viewers about different concepts they might be using in the movie.
The story challenges the mind but doesn’t overdo it wherein you need to think a little bit more about the plot and characters. This is definitely one of the movies that will be remembered by most of its viewers for years.
If you haven’t seen it yet, better scramble and get to a movie house – the experience of watching it in a theater is even better or maybe ironic for its theme.
CMR gives Be Kind Rewind a rating of 3.5/5
