The star of the television series and movies of the same title, “Sex and the City,” actress Sarah Jessica Parker and her actor husband Matthew Broderick (“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”) have received a verdict in the sentencing case against a police chief in Ohio; the chief is accused of being connected to the break-in at the home of the surrogate carrier of their newborn twins. The former police chief from Martins Ferry, Ohio, Barry Carpenter, was convicted last month on charges of receiving stolen property, theft in office, and evidence tampering, but was acquitted of burglary and other counts against him. Wednesday, Carpenter was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison in connection with the charges on which he was convicted. Barry Carpenter’s attorney has announced his clear intention to appeal the court’s decision. The former chief was accused of attempting to conspire with Police Chief Chad Dozak of nearby Bridgeport, Ohio, to steal items from the celebrity couple’s surrogate mother’s home to sell to paparazzi; the surrogate lives in Martins Ferry. Former-Chief Carpenter resigned two weeks ago from his post in Martins Ferry amid the Sarah Jessica Parker-Matthew Broderick surrogate baby carrier scandal.
